Providing high quality and thorough chiropractic care to people of all ages.

With the rapid development of technology, gaming has become increasingly popular among children and teenagers. Platforms like the PS5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and computers are now easily accessible. However, many young people become unknowingly absorbed in gaming and end up spending long hours in front of screens. When deeply focused, it’s easy to lose track of time and overlook changes in posture while sitting on the couch or in a chair.
Are you one of them? Do you experience neck stiffness, lower back pain, or notice changes in your posture like forward head carriage, rounded shoulders, or even a hunchback? If so, chiropractic care may be the solution you need.
Chiropractic care may help gamers stay healthier and more comfortable while playing.
When gamers concentrate intensely on the screen, they tend to lean forward, causing the head to shift ahead of the body and the shoulders to round. Over time, the head position gradually moves further forward. According to a 2014 study¹, the more the head tilts forward, the more pressure is placed on the cervical spine. To compensate, neck muscles tighten in an effort to bring the head back to its normal position. Since neck and shoulder muscles are interconnected, tension in the shoulders builds as well. Eventually, poor posture can flatten the natural curve of the neck and create a painful cycle that’s difficult to break.
Headaches are also common among gamers. Why? As neck and shoulder tension increases due to poor posture, it can radiate to the head, sending stress signals to the brain. Additionally, reduced movement in the neck joints may further increase stress responses, contributing to more frequent headaches.
It’s common to see gamers slouching, with their lower back positioned far from the backrest. In this posture, the lumbar spine cannot support the body’s weight effectively, increasing strain on the lower back. Over time, this weakens the surrounding muscles, which lose their ability to support the spine during daily activities. This is why some gamers feel discomfort after sitting too long, experience sharp pain when standing up, or suffer from lower back soreness when walking or standing for extended periods.
Gamers often rest their arms in awkward positions while playing. For example, forearms may hang off the edge of the desk without proper support, or wrists may rest on hard surfaces. This improper positioning can cause tightness and stiffness in the hand and wrist muscles. Prolonged poor posture increases the risk of strain, and any sudden movement may aggravate the issue.
Chiropractors assess posture, joint alignment, muscle tension, and nerve function through a comprehensive evaluation. Based on these findings, they can perform specific adjustments and create a personalised care plan to help reduce pain and improve function.
Chiropractic adjustments aim to restore mobility, realign the spine, and reduce nerve irritation. Improved spinal function allows muscles to relax, easing tension and relieving symptoms such as headaches and pain.
In addition to adjustments, chiropractors often provide spinal care education, corrective exercises, and lifestyle advice to help prevent future issues.
Adjust your monitor to be at eye level to reduce neck strain.
Use an adjustable desk and ergonomic chair to support your back and elbows.
Take breaks every two hours: rest your eyes, stand up, stretch, and walk around to reduce stiffness and improve circulation.
Gaming can be an enjoyable and rewarding hobby – but it shouldn’t come at the cost of your health. If you’re experiencing discomfort or postural changes, consider seeing a chiropractor to help keep your body aligned and functioning well.
