What to expect from Total Health Chiropractic

At Total Health Chiropractic Frankston, we use a unique approach to understanding the root cause of, and to help with pain –

Initial Consultation

During your initial Chiropractic appointment, we go through your history and conduct an assessment, comprising of –

  • Computerised posture scanning
Our computerized posture scanning program takes two pictures of your body –  one from the front and one from the side. These pictures are then digitally analyzed by the program and also by our Chiropractors. These pictures then tell us a lot about your posture in terms of where your head, shoulders, hips and knees are sitting in relation to the body’s ideal posture. These pictures are then utilised to help understand the pain you are experiencing and also used to help create a personalised treatment plan.
  • Motion testing
Motion testing is another important part of our thorough assessment. In this part of the assessment, we aim to take your spinal and extremities joints through their range of motion to examine for any restrictions in those joints. This can be done passively (by the Chiropractor) or actively (by you, the patient). This will help us determine locations in your body that are pain generators and help us put together your own personalised treatment plan.
  • Balance testing
Testing your balance is an important part of our examination. Not only does it show us how balanced your body is and how good it is at regulating your balance, but it also tells us about other areas of your body, including your –

    • Cranial nerves
    • Nerve impingements
    • Kinetic chain in your lower body
    • And many more areas

This again helps our Chiropractors create a tailored treatment plan for you.

  • Orthopedic and neurological tests
Within our orthopedic and neurological assessment, your Chiropractor will test –

    • Muscle strength and function
    • Pain levels
    • Nerve function
    • Joint function and stability

With the results of these assessments, your Chiropractor will have a better clinical picture of your overall health and pain generators in your body.

  •  Leg length assessment
Your Chiropractor will engage in a handful of tests that help them assess for any discrepancies in your leg length. This will allow the Chiropractor to narrow down reasons for poor posture and alignment to regions such as the hips, lower leg, ankle or feet.

Spinal x-rays

When clinically indicated, your Frankston Chiropractor will refer you for spinal x-rays. Spinal x-rays provide fantastic insight into the true alignment of your spine and any degeneration that may have occurred throughout your life. From here, your Chiropractor can establish why and when your symptoms started, while visually locating any pain generating areas throughout your spine – which allows your Chiropractor to create a personalized treatment plan.

Report of findings

This visit is all about your results. From these results, your Chiropractor will propose and recommend a personalised long term treatment and rehabilitation plan. Your Chiropractic treatment plan may include –

  • Manual diversified technique
The diversified technique is a form of manual adjustment in which your Chiropractor will use their hands to deliver a precise spinal manipulation that aims to adjust the spine in regions that are restricted and encourage nervous system stimulation.
  • Extremity adjustments
Much like the manual diversified adjustments, extremity adjustments are done by a Chiropractor using their hands. The Chiropractor will deliver a specific adjustment to the joints that are restricted. With this technique, instead of your spine, the Chiropractor is adjusting the extremities, which include the shoulders, elbows, wrist, hips, knees and ankles.
  • Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT) using blocks
The Sacro Occipital Technique is a more gentle way to realign the spine and hips. This technique aims to relax muscle tension through a low force method that uses SOT blocks which a patient comfortably lies on for a certain amount of time chosen by the Chiropractor. This technique recognises the relationship of the spine from the base of the skull all the way down to the base of spine in your coccyx and its relationship to the nervous system.
  • Activator method
The activator method is another low force technique that can be used on both spinal joints and joints of the extremities, such as the shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles. The activator method uses a tool called the Activator, which is used instead of a Chiropractor’s hands to deliver an adjustment through your restricted joints. This method is more gentle than manual adjustments but aims for the same results!
  • Drop piece adjustments
Adjustments with the help from a drop piece is another low force option for patients. Whilst the Chiropractor will still use their hands to generate force, the adjustment is completed through the use of the drop piece component of the table or via a portable drop piece, thus creating a much less forceful feeling throughout the adjustment. The drop piece can be used on both spinal joints and joints of the extremities.
  • Soft tissue release
Soft tissue release methods may be used by a Chiropractor to aid in the release of muscles that are tight, that have knots in them or that may referring pain around the body. A Chiropractor may use manual techniques such as massage, static compression, stretching and more. A Chiropractor may also use a massage gun on muscles which are stubbornly tight.
  • Specific rehabilitation exercises
As a part of any treatment plan, our Chiropractors will recommend and give you specific rehabilitation exercises that are tailored to you. These specific rehabilitation exercises aim to strengthen your body, while simultaneously allowing you to function and feel better. Rehabilitation that may be recommended include stretches and exercises that vary in intensity.

Regular adjustments

Each adjustment is tailored to your treatment plan and specific requirements

Progress exams

A progress examination is a structured visit to re-evaluate your posture and show the changes that the Chiropractic adjustments have achieved. From here, the next phase of treatment can be identified.
